Expansion Plugs or Freeze plugs protect your engine blocks come winter. They are designed to hold coolant inside the engine block under normal circumstances with tight fit. However, when coolant freezes it expands - applying pressure to the engine that could cause costly damages. The plugs relieve the internal pressure by pop out.
