How We Made: The 5/8" Wide KeyWay In A Gear Hub

To create the specified depth, the operator will use a correctly sized shim and broach. The shim will control the depth of the keyway as the broach passes through. After a few passes, the keyway is then measured to ensure the correct depth. Finally, a demurring operation is performed to provide a smooth edge and a tight fit.
