With a purpose

Water is as fundamental to our existence as nuts and bolts are to the fastener industry. The world is held together by both; they are  simple and vital. Yet today, there are 750 million people in the world who don’t have access to clean water. The fastener industry  can help change that.

We have launched a new program dedicated to bringing clean water to the world’s most needy communities and helping to improve  the future for thousands of people. We’ve partnered with Drop in the Bucket, a small non-profit that focuses on building water wells at schools in sub-Saharan Africa.

In this part of the world, it is common for children to retrieve water for their families on a daily basis. Often, this involves walking  for miles, collecting water, and then bringing it home. The water is not clean, the journey difficult, the task is hard, and they do all of  this instead of going to school to receive an education.

Drop in the Bucket’s mission is brilliant and it is simple. They raise funds to drill wells at schools. Parents can then send their kids to  school and they come home with clean water and an education. It works just as well as a nut paired with a bolt.

At Earnest, we decided there was more we could do to help and to get our industry involved. We looked at the pictures of the kids  and realized the wells and pumps were held together by a dozen or so nuts and bolts. Sure, we could simply supply the hardware for  free, $14 dollars in product, but we wanted to do something bigger and bolder.

With our Clean Water Initiative, our goal is to help create 4,000 water wells by 2040. We are getting there the best way we can: by  selling screws. We’ve expanded and improved our line of Grade 8 Hex Head Cap Screws to be better and we’ve added a purpose.

We are donating 5% of all sales of Grade 8 Hex Head Cap Screws towards this initiative to help bring clean water to the world’s most  needy communities.

Once a well is providing clean water, it taps the human potential for thousands of children. Water changes lives, gets kids educated,  creates opportunities, and transforms a community. A water well helps to elevate humanity. Yes, something as simple as clean  water can do all of that.

This initiative is part of our developing Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) position. We will provide quarterly reports on our  progress and specific customer reports as requested.
