Chemical Analysis OES (Optical Emission Spectrometer)




Earnest Machine Products is capable of providing our customers with chemical analysis of most carbon and alloy carbon grades, as well as 300 and 400 series stainless steel. The spectrochemical equipment was added to allow certifications of fasteners supplied by Earnest, however chemical analysis services are also available to others on a commercial basis.

The optical emission technique uses a high-energy spark created across an argon-filled gap between an electrode and a sample of the material to be analysed. The spark creates an emission of radiation from the excited sample surface with wavelengths characteristic of the elements composition. The emitted light is separated by its unique wavelength, photomultiplied and converted from light intensity to digital information. This instrument accurately determines the weight-percent or parts per million for each element in the test specimen.

Optical emission spectroscopy is the preferred method for direct analysis of solid metallic samples. The ultimate combinations of accuracy, speed, precision, and reliability have made it an indispensable tool for Earnest Machine Products.
